Summary
In Chapter 13, Post pays a visit to Bruno McKnatt, the man who was the police chief in Seabrook at the time that Russo was killed. The investigation had been taken over by Bradley Pfitzner, the sheriff. McKnatt tells Post that Pfitzner pushed him out of the investigation and then delayed calling the state police. McKnatt adds that he believes that Pfitzner got him fired because he saw McKnatt as a threat. In regard to Russo’s murder, however, McKnatt says he never had any reason to think that Quincy did not kill Russo.
In Chapter 14, two months into Post’s investigation he receives a call from Carrie asking to talk. Frankie visits the truck stop restaurant where the meeting is scheduled to replace the salt shaker with one equipped with a recording device. After Frankie leaves, Post makes a point to take that...
