Summary
Chapter 3 begins with a flashback as Liborio remembers how El Pepe and the other immigrants helped to heal him after finding him nearly dead on the side of the road. It takes several days, but once he is able to work he joins them on the farm picking cotton. One night after work they all go to a bar to watch the football match between Mexico and the U.S.A. men’s teams. As the game comes to an end Liborio goes to the bathroom. While there he hears a scuffle coming from the bar and a lot of yelling as the border police infiltrate the bar and start dragging immigrants out.
In the present, Aireen finds Liborio on her apartment stoop and gives him some food to eat, noticing his shoes are missing. She says she has to go...
