Summary

Chapter 46 opens with Lobbi going to see the apartment. The only thing he will have to pay for is gas and he tells her it will only be temporary. The landlady tells him that Father Thomas explained the situation to her. She offers Lobbi some bedclothes and when Lobbi moves a vase, she puts it back when she notices.

In Chapter 47, Lobbi cleans up the apartment and buys “necessities” (156) for the apartment. He tries to figure out what a nine-month-old will eat and decides to go food shopping.

In Chapter 48, Lobbi buys veal from the butcher after he finishes in the garden. Brother Marcus and Brother Paul bring a cot to the apartment. Lobbi returns to the butcher and asks how to prepare the veal.
