Summary
The CC becomes entwined with kampong life because of Ah Boon. Tension remains strained between Ah Boon and his uncle. Eventually, however, Uncle comes to the CC with Hia. Ah Boon has to ask them to wash off before spending time there.
Siok Mei comes in one day and asks for Ah Boon’s urgent help. The union leaders are planning to form their own party. He tells her that he cannot leave, but she wants him to come. He tells her of the homes the Gah Men are building and of the free schools. She is still against what he is doing and quotes Lenin, asking him if he has forgotten everything he learned.
