Summary
Back in 1990, Teresa takes care of Yale in the apartment he once shared with Charlie. Yale’s friend Asher takes him to Richard’s first show at an art gallery. Yale tells Asher that he used to worry about the end of the world, which he found bearable so long as everyone else left too: “If you had to choose when, in the timeline of the earth, you got to live--wouldn’t you choose the end? You haven’t missed anything, then. You die in 1920, you miss rock and roll. You die in 1600, you miss Mozart” (382). Now, however, he knows that he will die before everyone else. Asher holds Yale’s hand as they walk along the street.
