Summary
On one evening, Yale sees Julian at Treasure Island. Although Julian looks healthier than before, he complains that Teddy is suffocating him with attention. Julian has plans to run away and die quietly in another country. When Yale next sees Fiona, he asks her if she has Roscoe. Fiona, suddenly alarmed, does not have Roscoe. They rush to Terrence’s apartment and they find Roscoe, who looks like a “deflated stuffed animal” (273). The vet helps Roscoe recover. From the vet’s office, Fiona makes Yale an appointment with Dr. Cheng, the same doctor who helped Nico and Terrence.
Dr. Cheng tells Yale that while he was exposed, he may not have the virus. Dr. Cheng arranges for Yale to take the test by putting some symbols on the paper: “If my records were seized, all they’d see is some funny shapes” (278). They...
