Part Two Summary

In chapter one, four girls in Palomo Grove go down to the water to play in it. Joyce, Carolyn, Trudi, and Arleen are all friends, and bored with their quiet lives. Joyce asks Arleen if she is in love with a boy named Randy, because she has strong feelings for him and wants him to notice her. They go to the mall before their stop at the water, and Arleen admits that she plans to move to New York soon. Joyce is very interested in Randy and continues to ask her questions about him. The group continues to wander, and they find themselves in Deerdell Village. Trudi's brother, Sam, has been in a car accident and now suffers from catatonia, and the girls miss him all in their own way. They arrive at the water source, that appears to have developed...
