Summary

In Chapter 55, Tierney is wary of Anders, but Ryker says she can trust him. Tierney picks up a jar with a familiar green substance in it, and Ryker tells her it is hemlock silt, a substance that causes insanity with prolonged exposure. Tierney realizes the green in the well water back at the grace year camp is hemlock silt, and that it is the cause of the girls’ frayed mental state.

Tierney and Ryker makes plans to run away together, as they come up with ways to protect their families. Tierney is hesitant, but Ryker promises her he will make things work for them.
