Summary
In Chapter 21, Pacheco wrote to Pascal, canceling his classes and dismissing him from his job (115). Pascal went to Judas. They had dessert with Dominique Origny, “a star on national television” (115). He invited Pascal to debate Pacheco on “his program Face to Face” (116). Pascal hesitated. Judas promised to help reclaim his job in the meantime.
When Pascal met Pacheco, the man called him his enemy. Pascal insisted they simply had different ideas. Pacheco explained he was not targeting Pascal. He and Le Bon Kaffé wanted to amend social imbalances by giving everyone good wages, housing, and education. When Pascal countered, Pacheco got upset.
In Chapter 22, without his classes, Pascal was bored. He tried working on his writing and “correcting his disciples’ texts,” but felt uninvested (119). He decided to accept Dominique’s offer.
One night, instead of attending a Bon Kaffé lecture, Pascal stayed home...
