Summary

Section 13 of Chapter 2 is titled, “Friday. Forenoon Watch: 0800 – 1200.” The watch changes one more time. Krause orders a fuel report, and wonders whether it is “sentimental to want to be at the head of his command when the reinforcements arrived” (245). He also considers the convoys losses (seven ships and a destroyer) and his successes (30 ships brought through, three U-boats sunk). He brings himself back from the brink of sleep, has some more coffee, and is pleased to see that the support ships are within visual range. He makes his report to the incoming mission commander, who congratulates him and then orders him to escort the other destroyers, Dodge and James, to Ireland.
