Relay Baton

The relay baton symbolizes the passing of information, knowledge, and the ability to move forward. Sam and Charlie have trouble passing the baton successfully in the track setting. In the same way, they have trouble communicating with each other after their mother's death. Gamma later uses the image of the baton to convey to Sam the way in which she needs to take care of Charlie. Sam needs to find Charlie and put the baton in her hand. She should not expect Charlie to find her.

Truck

Danny's truck represents illegal activity. Sam and Charlie wonder how Danny, Zach's son, could afford the huge, gaudy truck that he drives.
