Summary

In Chapter 16, Flavia comes out of her bedroom the next morning and sees what looks like a creature coming towards her. She does not run and discovers that it is Undine wearing a costume to make her look like a Bornean river turtle. She gets Flavia to say that she scared her. Then she talks to Flavia about how she fits in the household. Flavia reveals that Undine was taken in when her mother, who had probably caused the death of Flavia’s mother, died. Undine says that she feels as if she is not wanted there and asks whether Flavia thinks of her feelings. Flavia says she does think of Undine feelings and what Undine says makes her feel sad. They go to breakfast in the next section of the chapter and Flavia discovers that Undine has searched Miss Stonebrook’s room...
