The spell El tries to write is a symbol of her grief. She is so distraught about Orion's fate that she attempts to write a spell to rewrite reality that would have blown her and the world up if her mother had not stopped her.

The Golden Sutras are a symbol of hope. With them, El is able to show the world how to replace the old, terrible enclaves with new, progressive ones.

Orion's Shirt

Orion's shirt is a symbol of all the trauma El has been through in the Scholomance. El wears Orion's shirt in the Scholomance, and she comes out with the dirty, torn shirt, but she cannot bring herself to throw it away.
