Summary

In Chapter Five, El and her friends went down to the garden party and met Yancy—a woman who had once come to El’s mother’s commune to seek her healing services. Yancy was a part of a band of independent wizards who lived in tunnels next to enclaves to siphon off their protection without actually joining in. El asked her for help escaping the enclave because Martel was having a power dispute with Alfie’s father and wanted to use El as leverage. Yancy agreed to take her and gave her a potion that would help bend reality. El gave the power-sharer back to Alfie and said goodbye to him, but Liesel came with her.
