Justice
This novel’s main character is Mickey Haller, a lawyer. He defends his clients to the best of his ability, even if he does not always believe they are innocent. For this reason, Mickey often bends the rules in order to get his clients the best result he can. Unfortunately, this sometimes comes back to haunt Mickey.
In order for justice to work, there must be a balance, a way in which everyone receives equal treatment. That is why defense attorneys are important to the justice system because they provide that balance. In Mickey’s case, he often finds himself representing the worst of humanity, but he must give them the same effort he would give someone he knows is clearly innocent. Sometimes this works for Mickey, but sometimes it comes back to haunt him. For example, Mickey’s daughter is refusing to speak to him...
