Book 7, Chapter 22 Summary
In 1961 (two years after Fredo's death), Nick is summoned to meet with Michael. Since Fredo's death, Michael's wife has left him, and Michael has lost two capos, and of course a brother, fighting over an empire, which has become increasingly clear will never exist in the unstable political climate of Cuba. Geraci had to do very little to harm Michael so deeply. He only told Russo, indirectly, through Don Forlenza, of Fredo's vulnerability and how it could be used against Michael in Cuba. After that, events took their course without Geraci lifting a finger. When he's told he'll meet Michael in a limo, Nick figures Michael learned of Nick's involvement in all this and intends to kill him. Seeing no honorable way out of the meeting, Nick spends the day waiting to die.
