Book 2, Chapter 9 Summary
Michael expertly lands the plane on Lake Mead, back home in the Las Vegas area. His wife is cranky because he'd promised her their anniversary alone, but on the return trip the plane also carried three of Michael's men, including Tommy Neri, Al Neri's son. Now he's ditching Kay to attend the meeting he's scheduled for that night. When Kay protests, Michael mentally compares her with his first wife, Apollonia, a Sicilian girl through and through who would have never questioned Michael's slightest order. In Michael's rather limited view, there are only two kinds of women, women like Apollonia, and women like Kay. On the whole, he's glad he married a more independent, American woman, which he believes is better to have by his side as he builds his empire. Nonetheless, in Michael's mind, allowing his wife to speak her mind...
