Summary
Chapter 18 begins with Georgie arguing with David and his parents about who should raise her child, Harmony Faye Fitzsimons. David’s family blames CAIL for allowing David to indulge “his weaknesses” and argue that David should raise the child because they “can support [David]” in his recovery and with the child (244, 245). Georgie acquiesces because William and Clover Tobin refuse to support both her and the child, and thus feels as though she has “not yet been saved” (246).
Nine months after giving up Harmony, Georgie runs away from the CAIL mission because she realized that the mission would not support her efforts to reclaim her daughter.
Georgie soon rents a hotel room and receives a phone call from David, berating her for leaving CAIL and threatening that she will not see Harmony again if she returns to prostitution for income.
