Summary
Once Jimmy had “consigned [the murder] to history,” Maureen let him know that Tony had told her Robbie O’Donovan’s name (86). Jimmy sees this as dangerous knowledge for Maureen to have, so drives to Tony’s “to beat sense into him” (87). Tony is not home, but Tara Duane is next door; Jimmy barges in to Tara’s and the narrator relates that Tara had once attempted to work as a madam in one of Jimmy’s brothels, but could not take the stress. Tara tells Jimmy that Tony is on “court-ordered drying out” because he got drunk and broke one of her windows (91). Jimmy asks Tara if she knows of Robbie O’Donovan; she claims not to, but soon reneges and tells Jimmy that Robbie was dating Georgie Fitzsimons.
