Part 1, Chapters Dinner- Ecstasy, pp 100-129 Summary
In Dinner, the Landauers host a dinner party and the reader begins to notice how the guests have changed. Herr Schreiber, a Nazi, has been invited to the party. He begins to talk about Liesel and her duty to her German blood. Viktor's patience boils over and he asks if the duty also falls on him. The Nazi seems confused and Viktor reveals he is Jewish.
As Memories begins, Hana reveals that her lover, Nemec is leaving her. She is heart broken that Nemec would choose his own wife over her. Hana also reveals that Oskar agreed to give her a divorce if she wanted to be with Nemec. Liesel tries to calm Hana. They put the children to bed and the two friends comfort each other in the confines of the glass...
