Baileyville
Baileyville is a small, rural town in Kentucky near Lexington full of miners and farmers, with a single restaurant, a church. Because Baileyville is a conservative town with traditional views, any townspeople that fall outside of that mold can feel a sense of alienation, such as Margery and Alice. It is a small enough town where word travels fast, and everyone seems to know everyone else's business. Many of the characters bemoan how they always feel others are watching and judging them.
However, Baileyville can also be a very pleasant place to live, especially in regard to the community it fosters. Because many of the people don't have much, they rely on each other to get by, forming unbreakable bonds of friendship.
