Summary
As the trial gets even closer, more and more people are flocking to Baileyville. Many of McCullough’s relatives, many of whom had not seen him in years, show up outside of the jailhouse and library to “shout abuse and threaten violence” (331). The librarians do everything they can to defend Margery’s reputation. Sven leaves town with the baby, as he wants to spare himself having to deal with all of the people around being so awful to Margery. Alice tells the other girls that she is moving back to England, and they are sad not only for the future of the library, but also to see their friend leave them. Sophia is determined to keep the library running for now.
Even more people arrive, and most of them convene outside of the jailhouse to yell obscenities at Margery. All of the librarians...
