Summary
Chapter 10 opens with a look into Margery’s home life with Sven, as she is wrapped up with him under the covers, too cold to want to move. They discuss how Van Cleve has no proof that Margery is behind the letters for blocking the strip mining, “but there were few enough people who either had the resources—or the courage—to have been behind it” (160). Sven brings up the marriage conversation again, bringing up the point that their lives would not be much different if they just got married. Margery says she wants the freedom to do what she wants without having to answer to anyone. Sven is scared that one day she will tell him to leave, and she assures him that will not happen.
Back at the library, the rest of the girls are starting to catch on that something...
