Summary

In Chapter 21, Anna struggles with her first breakfast at the treatment center and demands to speak with a nutritionist. When Anna abruptly leaves the dining room, her lack of deference for the house rules triggers the other patients. Later, Allison, Anna’s nutritionist, will not entertain her pleas and demands for a different meal plan. She refuses to negotiate with Anna’s eating disorder. Chapter 22 consists of Anna’s meal plan.

In Chapter 23, Anna returns to the common space and wants to apologize for her behavior at breakfast. Emm approaches her and tells her that “everyone [there] is suffering, and everyone is suffering enough” (100). She encourages her to get through the first forty-eight hours, after that treatment will feel less terrifying. Anna attends her first group therapy session in Chapter 24.
