Summary
Chapter 43 begins with the news that Buhari has won the election, and Big Madam mourns the news as Kofi celebrates this moment of change for Nigeria. It being a Sunday in April, Big Daddy and Big Madam bring Adunni to church for a special Women in Business Thanksgiving service. Adunni is amazed by the glam fashion and happy energy of their church compared to her own in Ikati, a building with only a roof, a bench, and drums for music, with people acting and singing like they are in mourning.
Since the housemaids aren’t allowed in the upper-class church area, Adunni is brought by an usher to a worn-down church building close by, where five girls her age sit, wearing dirty dresses and looking afraid and lost.
