Summary
Chapter 37 begins with Tia and Dr. Kenneth Dada waiting in the reception, and Tia introduces Kenneth to Adunni formally, pretending they don’t have a personal friendship. During a formal discussion in the parlor, Tia asks Big Madam to borrow Adunni to take to the market with them weekly to teach Tia how to barter in Yoruba. Big Madam is rudely hesitant, but Big Daddy authoritatively insists, and they agree to lend her help.
That night, while praying, happiness consumes her. She takes out her plaited hair, undresses and wraps herself in a cloth and leaves the room to the yard. There, she runs into Big Daddy apologizing profusely on the phone to one of his girlfriends. He is surprised to see Adunni and lies to her, claiming he is planning a special church service with the pastor’s wife. As she tries...
