Summary

In Chapter 31, Big Madam gossips about Tia, judging her not getting pregnant a year into her marriage and for judging her for abusing her own staff, feeling obviously invincible against law and saying, “who is the policeman that will arrest Chief Mrs. Florence Adeoti?” (206). Big Madam then tells Adunni she is travelling to Switzerland and Dubai and England for two weeks and that Big Daddy will be away too to “visit his poverty-stricken family” in Ijebu (207). She demands Adunni’s best behavior during her departure and warns her to stay away from big daddy if he returns before her. Adunni tries to ask about Rebecca and is quickly thrown out with the throw of a violent shoe. She tries to ask Abu, the driver, about the same thing, and he tells her to stop playing with trouble without answering.
