Summary

Chapter 9

Katie isn’t sure what to do, and as she drives she considers her options. She could drive to a real police station and hope that they take her seriously. Katie quickly realizes that her reception there won't likely be much better as they all believe that she's an escapee from a mental institution. Hunger and exhaustion start to catch up with Katie, and she realizes that she needs to pull off of the road and at least get some food.

She finds a McDonald’s and searches for money in the SUV. She eventually finds 11 quarters. It takes her a while to build up the strength and confidence to run into the McDonald’s. After she, once again, checks for police, she leaves the safety of her SUV.
