Summary
“The Healer” is narrated by an unnamed teenage girl in an unnamed suburban town. She has a classmate that has a hand made of fire—referred to in the story as the ‘fire girl’—and a classmate with a hand made of ice—the ‘ice girl.’ Whenever they hold hands, the fire and ice cancel each other out, and their hands temporarily become normal. The fire girl and ice girl were friends for a while, but they eventually grew apart. Most people are scared of being burned by the fire girl, so she has very few friendships. One day, the fire girl forms a possibly romantic relationship with a boy named Roy. Roy has a habit of cutting his skin with razor blades. Roy likes it when the fire girl burned him. Meanwhile, the ice girl finds that she has the power...
