Summary

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway tells the story of Greg Heffley and his family taking a vacation to a tropical location during the holiday season.

The story begins with Greg explaining that he does not like hearing other people talk about their vacations because it makes him jealous. He explains that his family has just gotten home from a disastrous vacation.

Greg recalls that his mom and dad were watching television and saw a commercial for a tropical resort called Isla de Corales where they spent their honeymoon. The next day, Greg’s parents told the family that they would spend Christmas at the resort, to Greg’s dismay.

The Heffleys set off to go to the airport on the morning of Christmas Eve but Greg’s dad had underestimated the traffic and it took much longer to get to the airport...
