The BabyHatch

This BabyHatch is both a symbol of hope and a symbol of resignation. Because his wife was dying in the hospital when Shep watched the hatch being built, he is reminded of the pain of her passing and his part in her death. Later, after Shep gets Perdita out of this same BabyHatch he sees it as a symbol of hope. He believes he was given Perdita as a sign of forgiveness and new life.
