Mariotta grew even more impatient with her new husband's absence. Sybilla and Mariotta were accompanied by Agnes Herries, a wealthy child boarding with them. Her grandfather had sent her to live at Midculter following the death of her father in the hopes that she would learn to be more like a lady.
