Summary

In Chapter 3, Will introduces himself. Will is not his “real name” (165). His real name has brought him “a whole lotta trouble” throughout his life (165). He has been incarcerated from a young age, but does not want to explain why. He is in “for life” and wants to tell his story so he does not “leave this earth” with any “misunderstandings” (165).

Will was put into the foster system after he was found “on the street” when he was five (166). Not long after starting school, he met a new kid with the same name as him. At first, the boys had a playful rival. When the other Will started dressing like will, their rivalry turned violent. When Will was in seventh grade, he fought the other Will, overwhelmed by the need to “kick the shit out of somebody” (170).
