Summary
In Chapter 6, when Cee was 16, her father left the family. Walking “home from school alone,” she remembered her mother’s lesson “about entropy among the weeds” (54). When she returned home, she remembered it was Wayne’s birthday. Every year, Charlotte had them watch old family videos of Wayne. Cee hated “this family ritual,” wanting to remember Wayne on her own (54).
Shortly thereafter, Cee learned that Charlotte had had an affair. After Bernard found out, he visited Cee in her room. She had just woken from a dream where Wayne was alive.
