The second chapter delineates the idea of 'seasons of time,' illustrating cycles in history that Americans might learn more about what is in store for them. The chapter opens with the story of the tragic fate of the Etruscans, who knew that history was cyclical and were replaced by the Roman Empire, which was in turn replaced by Medieval Christianity.
