Summary

In Chapter 36, Puri discovers a woman is wearing a pillow under her clothing to mimic pregnancy. She is tired of the ruse and wants to adopt an infant she can pass off as premature. Puri judges that the couple are not suitable parents for the baby she calls Clover, and is glad they move on. She thinks about a dream she had the previous night in which Daniel was a matador.

In Chapter 37, Martin and Maria return to the hotel. Martin looks at Daniels's photos and Daniel hopes for a kind word.
