Summary

Mary and Jake talk about the article he wrote, and he explains that numerous families have tried to get their relatives out of the Village unsuccessfully. He assures her that he has not told anyone about Lillian because he would never share something she told him in confidence. They both realize that it is dangerous for Mary to be seen with Jake.
