Summary
Numerous letters are exchanged in Chapter 9. The last time Sister Rosemary got a letter from Lillian, Lillian was married and pregnant to a man named Mr. Henning. Dory is engaged but cannot tell the family she works for for fear that she will be fired. Dory had heard that Lillian worked at the Henning’s speakeasy but that she was not married.
It is raining in Chapter 10, and Mary was taught to pray during storms. She steps into a building to get out of the rain, and she realizes it is the dairy barn during milking hour. One of the milking girls has her head against a cow and is praying as well. It is definitely Lillian. Cloris yells at Lillian, but Lillian winks at Mary. The next day Mary goes back to the dairy barn under the pretense of getting butter...
