This small neighborhood is the novel’s primary setting. A predominately African-American community, this is where the residences of Paul Clifford and Denise Crawford are situated. Tommy disappeared on this street, leaving his bike behind and many unanswered questions.
Brooklyn, New York, Mid-2000’s
Janie and Noah have made their home in Brooklyn. They live together in a comfortable house that feels slightly different when they return home from their trip to Ashville Road. Unable to identify what feels so different about the house, Janie realizes that the house is the same, but she is different. Brooklyn provides the locations of the daycare Noah attends, and the architectural firm Janie works at. Close to the Zimmerman residence is the diner where Dr. Anderson, Janie and Noah will first meet.
