Summary

Chapter 11 opens with the story of Chanai Choomalaiwog a child from central Thailand who spoke of being a schoolteacher named Bua Kai. Chanai gives the name of a village nearby called Khao Phra. His family investigates and finds the parents of a dead schoolteacher named Bua Jai. Chanai “reunites” with his family in he village and meets Bua Kai’s daughters, insisting that, “they call him father” (100).

After meeting at the diner, Dr. Anderson comes back to the Zimmerman's apartment in Brooklyn to continue his conversation with Janie. She puts Noah to bed and the two talk about reincarnation studies in the kitchen until they hear a scream from Noah's bedroom. Both race in to find him having a nightmare.
