Sergeant Mandella, 2007-2024 A.D., Chapter 11 Summary
When Mandella and Marygay return to his mother's apartment in Washington, she is very sick, bedridden, and coughing a great deal. Mandella insists that he take her to a doctor immediately. He goes to the phone and calls a hospital. After asking him if he is kidding, the nurse on the other end explains to him that his mother had received a zero priority rating on her seventieth birthday, meaning that her level of importance in society qualifies her for no medical treatment whatsoever. Mandella hangs up on the nurse and without delay begins to locate various medicines for his mother on the black market. Over the next four days, he and Marygay try to keep his mother alive, but she eventually dies. Mandella calls his brother who is currently living on Luna...
