Sergeant Mandella, 2007-2024 A.D., Chapter 1 Summary

Ten years later in Earth time and two years later subjective time, Mandella has been promoted to Sergeant and Potter has been promoted to Corporal. Both of them are leading their own strike force squads. Stott, who is now a sub-major, has called a meeting with all the squad leaders to determine the source of the low morale on the ship. Mandella suggests that it might simply be the fact that everyone has been on the ship for so long and another squad leader points to the hate-conditioning that all troops had undergone. Both theories are dismissed by Stott. He asks Potter her opinion, who says that her squad wants to get off the ship, which Stott takes to mean that they are looking forward to battle.
