Private Mandella, Chapters 12-13 Summary
Moving in a formation where Platoon Seven is protected by the preceding six, the company observes the blue-green foliage that amounts to not much more than vine-like stalks. Potter, leading Platoon Two, is the first to spot the movement of several animals, large and dark green in color. Cortez orders them to open fire. After all of the animals have fallen, they approach for a closer look. Although these animals look very different from humans, Mandella feels sick and nauseated at how similar they appear once their internal organs have been exposed. Cortez, on the other hand, is only concerned about whether or not the animals are dangerous.
