Private Mandella, Chapter 7 Summary

Ten days into their stay on Charon the company executes their first battle simulation. Mandella is on Team A, headed up by Marygay Potter. They are to ambush and take a bunker just under a mile away. As the grenade launcher and assistant team leader, Mandella makes an attempt to reach the bunker with a grenade while they are under rock cover, but is out of range. Potter voices her displeasure. Mandella assures her that as soon as they are in range he will not miss a single hit. He comments under his breath how her condescending tone is less than desirable.

After Team B loses three of its members, including its grenade launcher, Team A moves in closer for the attack. Mandella, concerned about the lack of brightness in his image converter, doubles the intensity. Potter and Mandella...
