Yona
Yona is just two years old when Jerusza takes her from her home in Berlin. Yona has only a few memories of her life with her parents. She believes those have become an ingrained part of her because she was taken from her parents so young. She grows up with Jerusza as her only companion and her teacher, though Jerusza makes it clear she does not love Yona and never claims to be her mother. This loveless relationship and the lack of social interaction leave a gap in Yona's life that is not filled until she joins the Jewish refugees and learns that her mother was Jewish, meaning she is legally recognized as Jewish.
