Summary
In Chapter 11, the group continues to move about once a week for the next two months. They have learned much, including all the things available to eat such as snakes and beetle larvae. They learn to make and break down camp. Yona had intended to stay long enough to teach them to survive – a few weeks – but she is still with them as winter approaches. During a trip into a village to steal eye glasses for two of the men, they heard of Germans killing a group hiding in the forest. Yona and Aleksander discuss the need to build permanent shelter for the winter. Yona believes they will be safe in one place during the winter snows, especially if they follow some basic rules. Aleksander, realizing she does not intend to stay with them for the winter, asks her to remain. No one...
