Summary

Chapter 40. After leaving the struggling LeBov in the care of technicians, Samuel returns to his workspace. Fueled, protected, and inspired by the serum’s lingering power, he works feverishly on the Hebrew Letter, which he imagines being more and more useful in reintroducing language and communication, becoming particularly inspired at the thought of experimenting on Claire, and realizing that he is fine with working on the “Jew hole.” He also contemplates the implications of the serum, realizing on the one hand that it costs children their well-being, if not their lives, but thinking, on the other hand, that that cost is worth it if safe communication can be established.
