Summary
Chapter 28. One morning in April, Samuel is taken out of the recovery wing of the facility. He is led outside, fed some tasty food, subjected to a few language-related tests (i.e. forced to read), and then led into his new quarters. On his way, he passes a man wearing headphones who seems to be being subjected to more language tests, and who seems to be in pain. Samuel comments in narration that he would become more and more familiar with the man over the next few months, the man’s suffering becoming his responsibility.
Chapter 29. Samuel is given an office-slash-research space, where he discovers an apparatus that manages to conceal entire words while revealing its component letters one at a time, the idea being that this would reduce the essential toxicity of language.
