Summary
Chapter 4
This chapter opens with a brief overview of the history of the phone, itself. Alexander Graham Bell was motivated, readers learn, by the inability to communicate with his fiance, who was deaf and couldn’t speak. The action cuts to Sully who is remembering the last time he spoke with Giselle.
(flashback)
Sully is startled awake by a phone call from his senior officer, Blake Pearson. Blake is sick and asks Sully if he will fly the F/A 18 back to the West Coast for him, instead. Pearson suggests that he take a layover in Ohio to visit the wife and kids, and Sully accepts the offer. He calls Giselle and she is excited that he is coming to see them sooner than they had planned. She wants to see him.
