Summary
In Chapter 6, Opal and Nev recall their first meeting. Nev and Howie were at a music club in Detroit, and they saw Opal and Pearl singing. Nev found himself captivated by Opal’s voice and performativity, and he told Howie that Opal was the person he wanted as a backup singer. Howie and Nev approached Opal about the opportunity. Opal agreed after some contract negotiations, and after she got to know Nev and his music better. Opal then moved to New York to work with Nev and Bob. In an ‘Editor’s Note’ section, Sunny conveys some of her interaction and interview with Bob Hize, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at an advanced age and was given a terminal prognosis.
